Safety
Safety and resources
If you are in immediate danger, call your local emergency number now. You do not have to go through a hard moment alone. Talking to someone, even a stranger on a helpline, helps.
Helplines
These are national services that answer around the clock or at stated hours. Numbers can change, so if one does not connect, search for your country's helpline or use a directory below.
| Country | Service | Call | Emergency |
|---|---|---|---|
| India | Tele-MANAS (government mental health helpline) | 14416 | 112 |
| India | KIRAN mental health helpline | 1800-599-0019 | 112 |
| United States | 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline | 988 | 911 |
| Canada | 988 Suicide Crisis Helpline | 988 | 911 |
| United Kingdom | Samaritans | 116 123 | 999 |
| Australia | Lifeline | 13 11 14 | 000 |
| New Zealand | 1737 Need to Talk | 1737 (call or text) | 111 |
Anywhere else: findahelpline.com and Befrienders Worldwide list services by country, and the International Association for Suicide Prevention keeps a directory of crisis centres.
If you are afraid of someone at home, in India you can call the Women Helpline on 181 or the emergency number 112.
How Netruve's safety check works
- Before a question reaches any reading, the phone checks it for phrases that suggest distress, self-harm or abuse. The check runs on your phone; nothing you type is sent to us.
- If it fires, the app does not give a reading. It tells you that a reading is not the right thing for this moment and shows a helpline for your country, with a button that opens your phone's dialler. You press call yourself.
- We do not keep a record of what triggered it. We only count, in aggregate and without identifying anyone, how often it fires in a country each day, to make sure it behaves sensibly.
- It is a phrase check, not a person. It can miss things, and it can sometimes stop a question that was not about you. If that happens, you can rephrase and try again.
What Netruve will never do
It will never predict a death or an illness, never suggest that you stop treatment, and never tell you that something terrible is coming. If a reading ever feels heavy, put the phone down and talk to someone you trust.
